Capital Asset Planning Made Easy
Fixed assets are often one of the largest line items on a company's financials, yet they are difficult to budget for and track in a spreadsheet-based model due to the depreciation expense and the accrued liability on the Balance Sheet.
Capital Asset Planning is an integral part of Planning Maestro, business performance management software, enabling you to forecast your capital asset requirements today and years out. Pre-built import templates allow you to easily and quickly import your capital asset data from your G/L or FAS system to facilitate the budgeting process. A series of menus prompt you through the fixed asset acquisition date, in service date, and disposition date. Then calculating depreciation expense is as simple as picking from a list of pre-built or custom depreciation schedules. The system does the calculations for you ensuring your depreciation expense is reported properly.
The Captial Asset Planning module also supports Construction in Process (CIP). Through a single menu, you can enter the purchase date of the asset, the in-service date and the system will allow you to keep track of this fixed asset project from Day 1 all the way through to it being capitalized. This allows you to keep track of the capital spending on the Balance Sheet and be able to capitalize the project when it's ready to be put into service.
Planning Maestro enables you to:
- Streamline the capital planning process
- Track the depreciation on existing and forecasted assets
- Establish separate acquisition and in-service dates to accurately calculate depreciation expenses
- Select from built-in depreciation schedules, i.e. straight line, double declining balance, sum of years, as well as MACRS tables or create your own custom schedule
- Calculate the gain or loss on disposal of an asset
- Analyze the impact of capital expenditures on your cash flow
